Clinical evaluation and Outcomes of Transabdominal Preperitoneal (TAPP) Mesh Repair Technique for Inguinal Hernias among Iraqi Adult Patients
Keywords:

Trans-abdominal Preperitoneal (TAPP) Repair is minimally invasive technique offers lower risk of postoperative complications, less postoperative pain, better and fast recovery compared to open procedures. It is more beneficial in overweight and obese patients or those with comorbidities when the open surgery is challenging and risky. Studies that evaluate outcomes of this technique are scarce in Iraq and there still a need to conduct further studies. Hence this study aimed to assess the effectiveness and outcomes of TAPP mesh repair for inguinal hernias among Iraqi adult patients. We conducted a prospective clinical study including 152 patients presented with inguinal hernias and were operated on using TAPP Mesh Repair during the period January 2023 to April 2025. We found that TAPP mesh repair technique for inguinal hernias is a safe procedure with minimal postoperative complications, less postoperative pain intensity and comorbidity. It can provide good outcomes in experienced hand with very low recurrence rate and high patient’s satisfaction among Iraqi Adult Patients. The main risk factors of incident complications are older age, obesity, smoking, presence of comorbidities and anatomical and technical issues. We recommend conducting further studies including larger sample size and comparison of TAPP mesh repair technique for inguinal hernias with other procedures for more precise evaluation
